How Much of Your Salary Do You Take Home in Ontario? 2025 Guide

Published October 13, 2026 · 2025 tax year

Your take-home pay is your employment income after income tax and employee deductions. In Ontario, the main statutory deductions are federal and provincial income tax, CPP contributions and EI premiums.

Use our 2025 Canada Tax Explorer to enter an annual salary and compare estimates. The calculator supports the 2025 tax year; it is not a 2026 payroll calculator.

Start with your annual gross salary

Enter employment income before deductions, including taxable bonuses. Choose Ontario and read the annual estimate. The monthly option divides the annual result into averages; it does not predict the exact deposit on a particular payday.

What reduces your take-home pay?

  • Federal income tax: progressive rates apply to different layers of taxable income. The lowest full-year federal rate for 2025 is 14.5%.
  • Ontario income tax: provincial brackets, credits and applicable adjustments affect the result. The Ontario health premium is part of provincial income tax, not a separate insurance policy.
  • CPP: contributions fund pension benefits. Earnings exemptions, annual limits and additional CPP contributions affect the calculation.
  • EI: premiums apply to insurable earnings up to the annual limit.

A tax bracket does not apply to your whole salary

Moving into a higher bracket does not mean every dollar is taxed at the higher rate. Only the income within that bracket attracts that rate. Your average income-tax rate and your marginal rate answer different questions.

Basic personal amounts are non-refundable tax credits. They reduce tax otherwise payable rather than acting as one universal deduction from everyone’s salary. The federal amount can also vary with income.

Why might my paycheque look different?

The calculator assumes a single employee aged 18–64 throughout 2025, with no dependants, other income or additional deductions. Benefits and refundable credits are excluded. Read its full assumptions before relying on a result.

Your actual pay may include workplace pension contributions, insurance premiums, union dues, taxable benefits or extra tax withholding. Pay frequency, employment changes and reaching annual contribution limits can also change individual deposits.

Can I compare provinces?

Yes. Keep the same income entered and select another location. The tool assumes you lived and worked in the selected location throughout 2025; moving during the year or working across provincial boundaries needs a separate review. Living costs are not included.

Need help with your actual return?

An estimate is not a completed tax return or a refund calculation. Our personal tax return service reviews your slips and circumstances to prepare the return. Get in touch for online assistance or an appointment in London, Ontario.
